A part of the Gobi Desert is also located in Gansu. The river gets most of its water from this province. It also flows straight through Lanzhou.<br /><br />The landscape in Gansu is very mountainous in the south and flat in the north. The mountains in the south are part of the Qilian mountain range.</div><div align="left"></div><div align="left"><strong><br />Scenic spots</strong></div><div align="left"></div><div align="left">The Bingling Temple, or Bingling Grottoes, is a Buddhist cave complex in a canyon along the Yellow River.<br /><br />Begun in 420 AD during the Western Jin Dynasty, the site contains dozens of caves and caverns filled with outstanding examples of carvings, sculpture, and frescoes.<br /><br />The great Maitreya Buddha is more than 27 meters tall and is similar in style to the great Buddhas that once lined the cliffs of Bamiyan, Afghanistan.<br /><br />Some other famous cities and scenic spots next to this and the capital Lanzhou are Wuwei, Jiayuguan City, with in the region the terrific pass at the Great Wall and the Mogao Caves near Dunhuang.<br /><br />In the southwest of the district, in the region Gannan, is the wonderful Labrang monastery located.<br /><br />The next district to visit will be Inner Mongolia, or Nei Moggol.</div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/481152052084889465-1820465492520540160?l=gansuunlimited.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>chinaunlimited weblognoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-481152052084889465.post-13063410827916405512006-12-28T05:00:00.000-08:002008-05-23T05:59:19.410-07:00<strong>Gansu is located in the northwest of China between Qinghai, Inner Mongolia, and the Huangtu Plateaus, and borders Mongolia to the north and Xinjiang to the west.
